Scholarships offered to local trade students
In honor of National Welding Month in April, Metal Supermarkets recently launched four $2,500 scholarships to be awarded to individuals interested in attending post-secondary trade school in 2022.
SC to host Family Code Night
All South Carolina families with children in kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to participate in the South Carolina Family Code Night.
In just one hour, family members will work collaboratively to learn key concepts in coding and computer science.
Teachers named finalists
Three area teachers are among the top 10 finalists for the Greenville County Schools 2022-23 Teacher of the Year.
Area finalists include:

Wendy Frans, 5th Grade, Brushy Creek Elementary
Hank Hill, Health Science/EMS, Riverside High
Knight crowned Miss Souvenirs
Byrnes High senior Brooke Knight was crowned Miss Souvenirs 2022 during the school’s class pageant recently.
She is the daughter of Eddie and Kim Knight.

Riverside junior Busha named Miss Greater Greer Teen
Miss Greater Greer and Miss Greater Greer Teen were crowned in a pageant for the Miss South Carolina Scholarship Organization in February.
Abigail Busha is the new Miss Greater Greer Teen 2022.
Laird hired as new SMC Provost
Spartanburg Methodist College (SMC) has named Dr. Curt Laird as its new provost and executive vice president. Laird was selected following a national search and will take over for interim provost Kris Neely on July 1.
