Bands wrap seasons at state

Several area bands completed their season last weekend at the SC State Championships.
The Greer High G-Force finished 7th overall in Class 3A at Blythewood High School on Oct. 28. The band received 2nd in music performance.
The Blue Ridge Corps of Cadets finished 12th overall for Class 3A and 9th in visual performance.
Crestview Elementary plans canned food drive

Last week, Crestview Elementary School held a canned food drive to donate goods to Daily Bread Ministries Greer Soup Kitchen.
The food drive took place during Red Ribbon Week, when students at schools all across the country recognized drug-free awareness, as well as bullying awareness.

Community members cut a rug during an Elementary Daddy-Daughter Dance at Blue Ridge High last week. The dance was one of the public fundraisers held as part of the school’s spirit week activities to raise money for Make-A-Wish.
GCS students nationally competitive on SAT, ACT

Riverside and Eastside high schools are among six Greenville County Schools to score above the state and national average on both the SAT and ACT tests.
On the SAT test, the average score for GCS students was 1032, which is 29 points higher than the national average (1003) and 12 points higher than the state average (1020).

In Greenville County, 37.2 percent of schools scored Excellent and 34.8 percent scored Good on the South Carolina Department of Education (SDE) annual school report cards for the 2022-23 school year.
