GHS students earn top finish at national event
Students in Greer High School’s Virtual Enterprise class recorded a top 28 finish in the 2017 Virtual Enterprise Youth Business Summit, held from April 1-6 in New York City.
The class, which was one of 400 schools participating, earned high recognition in the Business Plan Competition.
Record three District Five schools win DreamBox math challenge
Spartanburg District Five recently produced a record three winners of the national DreamBox Learning Spring Math Challenge, which took place from March 13-31.
DreamBox is an adaptive learning school program seeking to help students learn math as well as identify problem areas for teachers to address.
Volunteers participate in community service event
More than 500 volunteers donated their time and energy to various projects in Greer during Hope Week.
The week culminated with an egg drop on Saturday, April 15, but the hard work came first. Volunteers took on tasks such as: weeding, mulching, roofing, painting, teaching basketball and more.
Eastside grad to release book on eating disorders
Marion Reeves was just like many girls growing up in the Upstate. She was friendly, athletic, popular, and healthy. But when Reeves turned 13 years old, she began to be concerned with her appearance—as many teenagers do. But the concern soon became an unhealthy obsession that would spiral out of control and take over her teen years.

104 Years young
Shirley Fanning celebrated her 104th birthday at Thrive Assisted Living in Greer last week. The occasion was marked with decorations, party hats and plenty of cake.
Goodstock 2017 to help Upstate family April 22
For the past eight years, the Corey James Memorial Good Time Benefit, a 501C-3 non-profit, has raised more than $50,000 through music charity events for a local child and their family enduring medical hardships in the Upstate of South Carolina.
Auto show to support veterans this Saturday
Rides Rollin’ for Warriors is holding its annual Auto & Bike Show in support of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) this Saturday in downtown Greer.
Trade Street will be closed from 2-10 p.m. with car check-in from 2-4 p.m. The show car entrance is Depot Street. Pre-register at $15 or $20 the day of the show.
Area queens serve community
Miss Greater Greer 2017 Sydney Sill and Miss Greater Greer Teen 2017 Brooklyn Brewster participated in several community service projects in honor of Miss America Serves Day last Saturday.
The pair began the morning by donating items to the Greenville Health System Children’s Hospital.
