James "Gary" Rogers, 73,  of Greer, SC, passed away Monday, July 15, 2019. Private family services were held.

Gary was born July 7, 1946, at Greenville General Hospital in Greenville, SC. He was a lifelong resident of Greer. Gary served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. After his years of military service, he worked as a pipefitter and welder until retirement.

A faithful friend, he could always be counted on to lend a hand when needed. He was a problem-solver who often took on difficult and unwanted projects at work and around the house. He was mechanically inclined and there wasn't much he couldn't fix or repair. He was good with his hands and was an excellent carpenter. His love of automotives fueled his passion for drag racing and in his spare time he enjoyed building engines and fabricating race car bodies.

Gary was a good-hearted kidder with a very dry wit and the ability to instantly come up with one-liners that zinged. Although he feigned being a tough guy, he was (truly) tender-hearted, gentle, and sensitive by nature. He was supportive and encouraging to those who needed uplifting and always knew what to say to brighten someone’s day. Always willing to lend a hand, Gary could be generous to a fault. He loved unconditionally and trusted without limits.

Gary will be fondly remembered by those who loved him as a brother, nephew, uncle, father,  grandfather, friend, proud patriot, and US Army Veteran.
