Myrtle Burnette Smith, 102, widow of J. Carl Smith, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 at The Windsor House of Greenville.

A native of Callison, SC, she was a daughter of the late David Lee and Nannie Flinn Burnette, a 1931 graduate of Greenwood High School and a retired sales clerk for Dobson Hardware. 

While an active member of Abner Creek Baptist Church of Greer, she was involved in the Adult Choir, W.M.U., teacher and leader of Young People and G.A.’s, retired teacher of Fidelis Ladies Sunday School Class for 35 years, and Intercessory Prayer Group. Myrtle was the oldest member of Abner Creek Baptist Church. She was a volunteer worker in Healthcare at Rolling Green Village, an associate teacher of Duffey Sunday School Class Rolling Green Village, a member of the Presbyterian Mission Circle, and a charter member (formed in 1942) of the Happy Homes Club Lyman and Wellford.

Surviving are three sons and one daughter-in-law, David and Lib Smith of Taylors, Danny Smith of Spartanburg and Timothy Smith of Advance, NC; six grandchildren, Lauren Smith, Mary Paige Smith, Amanda Caines (Josh), Jeffrey Smith, Zachary Smith and Tyler Smith (Kristi); two great-grandchildren, Lee Caines and T.J. Caines and special friends, Linda Lister and Nellie Rumsey.

She was predeceased by two brothers, William and Marion Burnette; three sisters, Gertrude B. Lattimore, Louise B. Whisnant and Ella Lee Burnette and one grandson, Patrick David Smith.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at Abner Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Scott Ogle, Rev. Wallace Hughes, Rev. Donel Kelley and Rev. Josh Caines. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held 12 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the church.

The family will be at their respective homes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lutheran Hospice, 429 N. Main Street, Suite 3, Greenville, SC 29601, Abner Creek Baptist Church, 2461 Abner Creek Road, Greer, SC 29651, and/or The Windsor House, 1931 Pelham Road, Greenville, SC 29615.
