Roscoe Nelson Greene, 92, of Greer passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a brief illness on Thursday, March 16, 2017.  He was predeceased by his wife of over 68 years Mildred Waddell Greene.

Nelson was a 1942 graduate of Greer High School and attended Clemson College (University).  He forfeited his college education to assist his father in running the family farm in Greer when his elder brothers left for service of our country in World War II. He was a lifetime farmer in addition to serving as an agent for Federal Crop Insurance until he was 80 years old.  He will be remembered by farmers throughout South Carolina for his integrity and knowledge.  He was beloved for his unselfish practice of “fruiting” his family, friends and acquaintances.

He was a longtime member of Pelham First Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, member of the Henry Greer Sunday School Class and, until recently, a fixture at the front door on Sunday welcoming all who attended church services.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his parents James Roscoe and Mattie James Greene, brothers, Ollie Greene, Fred Greene and Jimmy Greene.

Nelson is survived by his children, Reba Greene and son-in-law Jack Greene of Greer, Aaron Greene of Saluda, Myra Greene and son-in-law Fred Wactor of Greenwood; his grandchildren, Heather Greene of Winston Salem, North Carolina, Virginia Greene and fiancé Mitch Williams of Boiling Springs and Graham Shaffer of Greenville; his siblings John Angus Greene and wife LeFleur of Indialantic, Florida and Lucille Greene Hendley of Greer; sisters-in-law, Sallie Greene of Raleigh, North Carolina and Mary Alice Waddell of Greer; along with many beloved nieces, nephews and a special favorite great-great-nephew Duncan Vick.

The family received friends at Pelham First Baptist Church on Sunday, March 19 from 1:30-2:45 p.m. followed by a service at 3 p.m. conducted by Pastor Patrick Clark.  Burial will be private.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Greene, Carlton Greene, Jack Greene, James Greene, Larry Green, Graham Shaffer and Fred Wactor.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Henry Greer Sunday School Class.

The family is at the home of a daughter, Reba Greene.

The family requests no flowers and that memorials be made to Lander Foundation, The Mildred Greene Early Childhood Education Scholarship, 320 Stanley Ave., Greenwood, SC 29649 or Pelham First Baptist Church, 2720 S. Old Hwy 14, Greer, 29650.
