Wade H. Hartsoe, Jr.

Wade H. Hartsoe, Jr., age 92, of Greer, went to be with the Lord on July1, 2016.

Born in Davidson, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Wade H. Hartsoe, Sr. and Grace White Hartsoe. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he worked 23 years for newspapers in Gastonia, North Carolina, King’s Mountain, North Carolina, and York. He relocated to Greer and worked an additional 33 years, retiring from the Greer Citizen in 2000.  He was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church.

Wade H. Hartsoe was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Lillian Martin Hartsoe.  Surviving is a son, Randy W. Hartsoe and his wife, Barbara Sanford Hartsoe, of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, a daughter, Yvonne Hartsoe Alford and her husband, Roger Alford, of Greer.  Also surviving are two grandchildren, Danny Alford and his wife, Amy, of Greer and Laura Hartsoe of Charlotte. North Carolina.   There are also three surviving great-granddaughters, Evie Chase Alford, Isabella Alford, and Dani Jade Alford.  In addition, he is survived by one brother, Kenneth Hartsoe, and three sisters, Arbutus White, Francis Howe, and Joyce Wallace all from York.

He was predeceased by four brothers, Raymond, James, North, and Max Hartsoe, along with two sisters, Dorothy Detwiler and Lucille Wilson, and one grandson, Randy Wade Hartsoe, Jr.

Funeral Services will be conducted by Pastor Joe Seay at El Bethel Baptist Church at 3 p.m. on July 3, 2016.  Visitation will precede the service from 2-2:45 p.m.  Burial will be at Wood Memorial Park.  Pallbearers will be Alan Moore, Grady Sanford, Jimmy Brown, and Tommy Broome.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to El Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 313 Jones Ave., Greer, SC 29651.
