Heading into the final week of the regular season, the Greer boys and girls basketball teams are aiming for top region finishes.

On the boys side, Greer will take on Union County and Blue Ridge in hopes of locking up second place and a home playoff game.

A group of cyclists gathered at Greer City Hall for a 50-mile ride on Saturday.

The ride was in celebration of Greer nurse Mandy Thompson’s 40th birthday.

Ian Cairns, of Greer, arranged the event, contacting Mayor Rick Danner, who is a known cyclist, to send off the riders with a pep talk.

Annual GMC fishing tournament set
The Greer Middle College Charter High School fishing team will host its annual fishing tournament on Feb. 17 and needs volunteers.

The North Greenville women’s basketball team took down Mount Olive on Saturday 87-85 on Saturday in a c Conference Carolinas showdown.
The Crusaders shot 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range as a team.

A few weeks ago at Torrey Pines, Tiger Woods may have accomplished his greatest feat as a golfer: missing a birdie putt.

The Byrnes High wrestling team won a conference championship over the weekend, topping Boiling Springs, 45-24, to claim the Region III-AAAAA title.

It was the Rebels’s first region win since 2005.

A cross-town rivalry was renewed on the hardwood last week, and each school walked away with bragging rights.

Greer’s success came in boys game, as the Yellow Jackets put a 83-51 beating on the Tigers.

The Eastside boys basketball team split a pair of region road games last week, topping Blue Ridge (80-70) but falling to Union County, 63-57.

Despite two region losses, the Eagles remain in the hunt for the Peach Blossom title at 3-2.
