The Riverside varsity boys basketball team lost Thursday’s non-conference game against Hillcrest by a score of 54-46 at home.
The Warriors started the game on a hot streak and opened up the game with Drew Cannon and Reeves Garner 3-pointers to take an early 10-2 lead.
Last week, the Byrnes Rebels football team was able to add another player to the list of athletes the school sent to the North South All-Star game.
Quarterback Colby Shaw was added to the North-South roster last week in time to play at the December 10 game.
The North team, with three local players, downed the South 22-14 in the 2022 Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl at Doug Shaw stadium Saturday in Myrtle Beach.
In a game that featured great defensive efforts by both squads, the first half scoring was limited.
The City of Greer hosted a Rugby tournament for three divisions this past weekend.
Pendleton (Indiana) Rugby won the Boys Gold Division, and Loudoun (Virginia) Rugby won the Boys Silver Division. Raleigh (North Carolina) Redhawks won the Girls Division.
Chris Foster, a 17-year-old junior at Byrnes High School, was awarded Lineman of the Year by the Greer Area Touchdown Club recently.
Rob Sanders, an 18-year-old senior at Riverside High School, was awarded Offensive Player of the Year by the Greer Area Touchdown Club recently.
As a quarterback for the Warriors, Sanders’ record includes: field passing 154-247 for 1,934 yards and 24 touchdowns; rushing 67 carries, 432 yards, and 8 touchdowns.
Bryce Foster, a 17-year-old senior at Greer High School, was awarded the Defensive Player of the Year award by the Greer Area Touchdown Club last month.
The Riverside varsity basketball team won Friday’s home non-conference game against Mauldin by a score of 60-58.
Early in the contest, it appeared that Mauldin was in control; however, the Warriors showed a no-quit attitude and clawed their way back into the game to secure the non-region win.
