Letter to the editor

Dear editor,

Rebuttal to William Buchheit. [In response to column “Ex-Marine deserves prison for subway killing” that was published in the May 10 edition of The Greer Citizen.]

Headlines: “Ex-Marine deserves prison for SUBWAY KILLING”; “Daniel Penny attacked him”; “maintained lock for several more minutes, even after Neely was dead”; “the ex-Marine did intend to kill Neely”;

“Penny kept choking Neely even after he was dead.”

What Mr. Buchheit didn’t tell us was about Neely!

Pleaded guilty in 2021 to assaulting 67 year old.

42 prior arrests 2013-2021.

Pronounced dead at hospital.

Witness who recorded incident said Neely was screaming in an aggressive manner ready to die.

Threw ex-Marine jacket to ground.

Penny did not know about Neely’s past history of mental problems.

Where was Neely’s parents at time of incident and also lawyers who are coming to their defense now?
Thank God for those who are willing to help out those who can not help themselves.
Let’s not judge for we will also be judged!
Semper Fi.
