Carey Ballew has been Assistant Fire Chief at Pelham Batesville Fire Department since 2006, but his days in the field fighting fires are days gone by. After over 30 years of working in the fire service, his job now is to overlook the younger generation of firefighters and make sure they are safely taking care of the community. 

Bridge closed on Hwy. 14

SCDOT officials recently announced that a contractor is in place and ready to begin emergency repairs on the Highway 14 bridge over Middle Tyger River.

The work begins this week and is anticipated to be complete by Friday, Sept. 30. The bridge will reopen to traffic following the completion of the repair project.

Taylors woman dies in accident

Beatrice Miller, 79, of Taylors died on Friday, September 16, in a parking lot.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office responded to 2 Innovation Drive, Greenville, in reference to a hit and run.

Miller was killed in the afternoon in the parking lot of the Millennium Medical Campus when she was struck by a vehicle.

Greer man receives 15 years

A Greer man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison and five years of probation after he admitted to sexually assaulting a child.

James Roy Bryant, 42, pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor in June.

Sam Sanders, a driver operator at Lake Cunningham Fire Department, found himself there after his battalion chief mentioned the department. Today, he is working in one of his favorite areas of Greer. A graduate of Wade Hampton High School and North Greenville University, Sanders is a local who loves the local community.

When John Laderer isn’t spending his time in the mountains, he’s working with our local Piedmont Park Fire Department. Since age 14, he’s been grinding in the emergency responder workforce, alongside his uncles, father, grandfather, and mother. Today, he’s with the headquarters of Piedmont Fire.

Greer Police searching for suspect

The Greer Police Department is on the search for an individual regarding several thefts at multiple Hobby Lobby stores.

GPD is asking for locals’ assistance in identifying a white female who is currently a suspect in multiple theft investigations. The suspect in the surveillance photo is currently the only person of interest.
