Skip Taylor of Hendersonville shot a final round 6-under par 66 to win the Greater Greer Open at the Greer Country Club. Taylor finished four shots in front of Brandon Coggins who moved into second place in the final round.
The Greer American Legion Post 115 junior squad has been dominating the region as of late, winning its last six games.
With only a couple of games remaining on the schedule, head coach Nate Ramsey said he feels as if his team has put itself in prime playoff position.
Free football clinic Runs July 7-8
The City of Greer’s Parks and Recreation Department will also host a free Upstate Jackets football clinic on July 7-8 and July 14-15 at Greer City Stadium for children ages 6-13.
The program will feature 7-on-7 games and instruction from camp directors.
Southside made the trip to Greer to take on Riverside in a 7-on-7 match up last week, providing some needed game experience for the Warriors.
Things went disastrously wrong for the Greer American Legion Post 115 senior team last week. Post 115 found itself on the losing end of six straight games, extending its skid to seven games total.
The team dropped losses to Spartanburg (by a score of 13-7), Gaffney (11-1), Union (16-6 and 6-1) and Inman (6-1 and 11-1).
The Blue Ridge Tigers jumped into 7-on-7 play this week, traveling to Mauldin for the team’s first tournament.
With competitions scheduled at Woodruff, Landrum and Chapman this month, head coach Shane Clark said the extra practice will be beneficial for his team.

Sometimes the fastest car doesn’t always win. At Kentucky Speedway, it did.
The Byrnes football team continued its summer success last weekend, winning a 7-on-7 tournament at North Carolina State University.
The Rebels picked up their first tournament victory of the season earlier this month at Auburn University.
Byrnes was undefeated in the recent tournament finishing 7-0 overall.
Riverside football coach Phil Smith said he was pleased with his team’s showing at a 7-on-7 tournament at Easley High School last Friday.
The Warriors walked away with five wins and Smith said his team will use that as momentum as they continue summer workouts.
